Re: Request to MAISL Resolution to Approve Withdrawal from Metropolitan Association of Improved School Legislation (MAISL) Joint Risk Management Trust

Recommended Motion:

I move the Board of Education to approve the resolution to withdrawal from the Metropolitan Association of Improved School Legislation (MAISL) Joint Risk Management Trust, as presented.

Background Information:

Bloomfield Hills Schools is a member of the MAISL Joint Risk Management Trust for general liability and property insurance.  The trust currently services 28 school districts in the state of Michigan.  Administration is seeking Board approval allowing the district to tentatively leave the trust effective July 1, 2027, which will allow administration to seek quotes for general liability and property insurance for the 2027-28 fiscal year.  The current bylaws of the Trust require a one-year notice along with a Board resolution regarding the election to withdraw from the Trust.  The resolution does not commit the district to making a change for 2026-27, but it does allow us to explore the insurance market for more competitive rates, consistent with Superintendent West’s Goal 5.  This recommendation is presented on behalf of Business Services and Maintenance & Operations.
